If their Epic Games account was already associated with the PS4 version of the game, they wouldn’t be able to use that account on Nintendo Switch. The issue was fixed but Epic vowed to make account merging a reality too.
Account merging is a feature that would allow Fortnite players to merge all of their secondary accounts into one. This would allow players to have their Fortnite purchases and stats associated with just one account. However, while Epic had been intending to get the feature ready for a November 2018 launch, the studio has now confirmed that account merging has been delayed.
In a blog post announcing the delay, Epic says that due to “ongoing technical concerns,” account merging has been delayed until early next year. The developer did not provide a more specific launch date other than early 2019 or explain what caused the delay. Epic does explain that it wants to “make sure that this process is thoroughly tested and working properly.” It also pledges to provide updates on the launch date and confirms that there will be a guide that will walk players through the account merging process.
Since Fortnite launched last summer, fans have raised concern about the stability of some of the game’s updates. Recently, for example, Epic had to repeatedly remove the Shadow Stone consumable from the game after players pointed out that it offered permanent invisibility.
Over the last six months, players have also had to put up with items going invisible, invisible walls and skins that had invisibility bugs too. Parts of the map also contain glitches and although these provide some entertainment for players, they aren’t intentional.
While none of the bugs listed above were game-breaking, if account merging goes wrong and data is lost in the process, fans will be heartbroken and outraged. It may be disappointing that such a useful feature like account merging has been pushed back, but it’s better than losing access to purchases.
Fortnite is available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Android and iOS.

Epic Games confirms that the Fortnite account merging feature, which would allow players to combine all their purchases and stats into one account, has been delayed.
