Then-Detective Kerry Breen was among the NYPD contingent escorting the former president\u2019s motorcade to the Bill Clinton Global Initiative event in Manhattan in 2010.
At one point, Breen heard a Secret Service agent holler, \u201cWe need to stop at the Port Authority building \u2014 Timberwolf needs to take a piss!\u201d
\u201cI was slightly annoyed by this semi-crass description of a bodily function for a war hero, former president and seemingly elegant elderly man,\u201d Breen, who is now retired, remembered to The Post on Sunday.
\u201cWhen the agent returned to our car, and the \u2018package\u2019 [H. W. Bush], the line of cars, was under way, I suggested to the agent a better descriptor of the exigency,\u201d Breen said.
\u201c\u2019Hey, if he needs to go again, how about you just say, \u2018Timberwolf needs a tree?\u2019 Breen recalled saying.
\u201cThat day, I unknowingly coined a phrase,\u201d Breen said.
At least two years later, the Secret Service was still using it.
\u201cOdd thing to be proud of,\u201d Breen said, \u201cbut I remain so.\u201d
Of Bush himself, Breen said, \u201cHe was a charming fella.\u201d
Bush died Friday at age 94 .<\/p>\n
