\nSpecial counsel Robert Mueller\u2019s office on Friday filed court documents responding to ex-national security adviser Michael Flynn\u2019s sentencing memorandum, in which his lawyers said he was \u201cunguarded\u201d during an FBI interview in 2017.
\u201cNothing about the way the interview was arranged or conducted caused the defendant to make false statements to the FBI,\u201d Mueller replied in the documents, ABC News reported .
His comments come in response to a filing by Flynn\u2019s lawyers on Tuesday in which they discussed the January 2017 interview between Flynn and a pair of FBI agents.
Flynn\u2019s team said he was not properly warned of the consequences of lying to the agents before the interview took place.
Earlier this week, a federal judge set Friday as a deadline for the government to turn over documents related to the January 2017 meeting for review \u2014 prompting Flynn\u2019s backers and President Trump to claim the feds tricked Flynn, a retired Army general, into cooperating.
But the filing said that the agents were worried that warning Flynn \u201cmight adversely affect the rapport.\u201d
Flynn last December pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI during the interview about contacts he had with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak during the presidential transition.<\/p>\n
