\nHP has packed more pixels into its newest PC-based VR headset, which will feature a 2,160-by-2,160 screen resolution for each eye.
The HP Reverb VR Headset will launch at the end of April in two versions\u2014a $599 one for consumers and another for working professionals; pricing for that has yet to be determined.
The product features a pair of LCD panels that double the pixel density from the company’s last VR product, the HP Windows Mixed Reality Headset, which offered 1,440-by-1,440 resolution. It also weighs about 40 percent less, at 1.1 pounds, and comes with integrated headphones that sit on the sides.

The headset itself offers a 114-degree field of view, a 90Hz refresh rate, and built-in tracking for six degrees of freedom (6DOF). So you’ll be able to move up, down, left, right, back and forward, as you navigate your virtual environment.
It’s compatible with the SteamVR platform, but HP is playing up the Reverb as a device for enterprise users to take advantage of Microsoft’s Windows Mixed Reality platform. For instance, the Reverb Pro edition is designed for architects, healthcare professionals, and other office workers to view their projects in a 3D virtual environment. HP is also hoping to sell the hardware to theme parks so it can be used in gaming attractions.
To navigate, the Reverb comes with two Bluetooth-powered motion controllers. The headset also has connections for a DisplayPort, a USB 3.0 slot, and 3.5mm headphone jack. However, to use the headset, you’ll need a PC with a powerful graphics card. For the pro version, HP recommends a system with an Nvidia GTX 1080, Nvidia Quadro P5200, or AMD Radeon Pro WX 8200 GPU.
The headset can connect to a PC over a 3.5-meter cable. The pro version will also offer a 0.6-meter cable that can attach to HP’s wearable VR backpack, a $2,000+ PC you can strap to your body.<\/p>\n
