\nJan.31 (UPI) — A skier died in Utah after being trapped in an avalanche on Saturday, officials said. The Summit County Sheriff’s office announced Sunday that Kurt Damschroder,57, died after being caught in the avalanche outside resort boundaries near Park City Mountain Canyons Village. The avalanche was triggered when Damschroder and a friend were skiing in the area known as Square Top on Saturday. „The friend immediately called for help, located the skier with the help of an avalanche beacon and attempted lifesaving efforts for more than an hour,“ the sheriff’s office said. The sheriff’s office added that „extreme danger“ in the area prevented rescuers from being able to reach the scene before nightfall Saturday. Responders were able to get into the avalanche zone and recover Damschroder’s body on Sunday. Damschroder was described as a long-time resident of Park City who „loved to spend his time outdoors.“ „The Summit County Sheriff’s Office and Summit County Search & Rescue offers our most sincere condolences to Kurt’s girlfriend, family and friends,“ the sheriff’s office said. „The family has requested privacy while they mourn the loss of their beloved Kurt.“<\/p>\n
