Kerbal Space Program first released into Steam early access on PC in March 2013, after being in an informal testing phase from its own website since 2011. It then received a full PC update in 2015. In the summer of 2016, it made the leap to consoles \u2013 the PS4 and Xbox One \u2013 before being bought by Take-Two in 2017. The keys were handed to Take-Two\u2019s indie arm, Private Division, before it was enhanced for PS4 Pro and Xbox One X in early 2018. Now Kerbal Space Program is being enhanced and upgraded again, this time for the current next-generation of consoles, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X| S. Per the announcement from Private Division: \u201cPlaying Kerbal Space Program Enhanced Edition on PS5 and Xbox Series X results in a technical boost, with the action running at quad high definition 1440p and an improved framerate over previous console versions. Xbox Series S runs Kerbal Space Program at 1080p and also boasts [a] better framerate. \u201cThe additional system memory on these consoles results in a more stable game experience and allows for an increase of part count on player\u2019s crafts and contraptions. This release benefits from upgraded shaders and textures allowing for more stunning overall visual impressions for players.\u201d Kerbal Space Program Enhanced Edition is scheduled to launch this autumn. It will be free to all players who own the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game. (So if you see the game on sale in the intervening period, you\u2019d be wise to snap it up.) Expect updates to KSP to slow after that next-gen upgrade, however \u2013 Kerbal Space Program 2 is currently slated to launch sometime in 2022.
