The set is out now, and it’s likely going to debut in first place on the ranking of the most-consumed musical projects in the U.S. with somewhere between 400,000 and half a million equivalent units shifted. The title is going to be a historic win for the singer-songwriter, and it may also give her another No.1 hit in an unlikely and unexpected track. It’s still early in the tracking week, but there seems to be a chance that Swift’s song “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version)” could debut at No.1 on the Hot 100. The song isn’t the type of tune that typically rises to the peak position on the list of the most popular tracks in America, but there is so much happening around the tune that a chart-topping start seems possible. Since Swift released the original edition of her album Red back in 2012, “All Too Well” has been not just a fan favorite, but a critical smash. The track is often singled out as her best work, and also as one of the most devastating and heartbreaking tunes of the past decade (at least). Rolling Stone recently placed it inside the top 100 on its revamped list of the 500 greatest songs of all time, and it’s the rare composition in today’s quick turnaround culture that is only getting bigger as time goes by. “All Too Well” will largely benefit from what should be a debut massive sales frame, as fans are quickly snapping up all the versions available. As of the writing of this article, there are four editions of the song available on iTunes. There’s the traditional take as well as an extended 10-minute cut, as well as two others that vary only slightly. They are all selling well, with the standard length reigning supreme. Chances are that Billboard will lump the sales, streams and radio play of all four into one entity, which is a tried-and-true tactic that has worked many times before. In addition to simply giving fans several versions of the same song to purchase, Swift has also been promoting “All Too Well” far more intensely than any other track on Red (Taylor’s Version). She performed the 10-minute song on Saturday Night Live, and much has been made of the short film the singer wrote and directed herself. The video is racking up millions of views on YouTube, which also factors into a title’s placement on the Hot 100. If “All Too Well” does hit No.1 on next week’s Hot 100, it will become Swift’s eighth leader, her fourth chart-topping debut and her thirtieth top 10. The original version of the cut peaked at No.80 on the chart, so it will almost surely better that high point. The new take is labeled as “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version),” which means it will chart separately from the original. That’s important, as the just-released take will count as a debut, not a return to the ranking. Billboard should announce where the tune lands on the Hot 100 on Monday, November 22, after the smash has enjoyed a full tracking week in which to rack up sales and streams.

Is Taylor Swift about to score her eighth No. 1 hit in a few days?
