According to Fox News, a video obtained by TMZ shows actress Sydney Sweeney climbing the Hollywood sign late at night as part of a promotional effort tied to the launch of her upcoming lingerie line.
The footage shows the \u201cEuphoria\u201d star dressed head-to-toe in black \u2014 cargo pants, hoodie, and hat \u2014 as she moved along the iconic structure. At one point, Sweeney appeared to hang a clothesline of bras across part of the sign while being recorded.
TMZ reported that Sweeney and her production team did have a permit from FilmLA to film in the vicinity of the Hollywood sign. However, that authorization did not extend to climbing or physically touching the landmark itself.
In a statement provided to TMZ, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which owns the intellectual property rights associated with the Hollywood sign, confirmed that no such permission had been granted.
\u201cThere was no permission granted to do this, as is required,\u201d the organization told the outlet.
The report raised questions about potential legal consequences, including possible charges of criminal trespassing or vandalism. Representatives for Sweeney did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital\u2019s request for comment.
The Los Angeles Police Department, however, told Fox News Digital that there is currently no investigation underway. \u201cNo crime was committed,\u201d a department representative said.
Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Steve Nissen later expanded on the issue in a statement to Fox News Digital.
\u201cThe production involving Sydney Sweeney and the Hollywood\u00ae Sign, as reported by TMZ, was not authorized by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce nor did we have prior knowledge of it,\u201d Nissen said. He emphasized that anyone seeking to use or access the sign for commercial purposes must obtain a license or permission from the Chamber, adding that none was granted in this case.
Sweeney\u2019s lingerie venture has drawn notable backing.
A source previously told Us Weekly that Jeff Bezos and his wife, Lauren S\u00e1nchez, are supporting the project, and Sweeney was later invited to the couple\u2019s wedding in Venice, Italy.
\u201cThis has been a huge project for her and something she\u2019s been working on for the last year,\u201d the source said.
The brand has also received backing from Ben Schwerin of private equity firm Coatue, which recently launched a new investment fund supported in part by the family offices of Bezos and Michael Dell.
The publicity push comes months after Sweeney faced backlash over her American Eagle campaign, \u201cSydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans,\u201d which sparked online controversy over its wordplay.
\u201cI was honestly surprised by the reaction,\u201d Sweeney told PEOPLE last month. \u201cI did it because I love the jeans and love the brand.\u201d
She added, \u201cAnyone who knows me knows that I\u2019m always trying to bring people together. I\u2019m against hate and divisiveness.\u201d
