The New York Post spoke to Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top about his solo tour with his BFG Band as well as his run with ZZ Top. He’ll headline at Atlantic City’s Borgata Casino Music Box on Feb. 7.<\/b>
\n57 years into touring, Billy Gibbons has no plans to slow down anytime soon.
\u201cIt simply is the greatest job in the world,\u201d the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer told The Post in an exclusive interview. \u201cGo to work by playing \u2026 and looking ahead to playing it again! Why stop?\u201d
Case in point, the tireless ZZ Top frontman has not one but two (!) major tours planned in 2026.
Up first, he\u2019s hitting the road with his BFG Band from now until late February, which includes five New York and New Jersey gigs.

\u201c[Our BFG shows] looks like rash rebelliousness,\u201d Gibbons, 76, said. \u201c\u2026it\u2019s a playlist conjured up from three BFG solo albums, \u2018Hardware,\u2019 \u2018The Big Bad Blues\u2019 and \u2018Perfectamunto.\u2019 We\u2019re sure to touch on those over the course of the evening with loads more. Get on the boots to wade through blues, surf, even digging deep in metal\u2026it\u2019s loud, it\u2019s a frolic and it beats working.\u201d
After that run concludes, the bearded bluesman will re-join his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group for a nationwide \u2018Dos Amigos\u2019 trek that starts in March and stretches all the way until September with Dwight Yoakam joining the unkempt outfit on select dates.
\u201c[Expect] new guitars, an even bigger drum array, fine new costuming, and a few new tunes to sweeten the set,\u201d Gibbons smiled. \u201cWe\u2019re gonna turn out and crank it up in a premiumly powerful way. Feel free to quote me.\u201d
Even with all that in the books, the unkempt virtuoso who often gets mistaken for Santa \u2014 \u201cChristmas is tough because kids ask Santa for stuff\u201d he riffed \u2014 still finds time to ponder his legendary facial hair.
\u201cI constantly contemplate whether to keep it under or over the covers,\u201d the \u201cLa Grange\u201d singer quipped.

We asked Gibbons a number of questions about his lengthy career. Here are his colorful answers.
How often are you recognized in public? Do you often hear your songs while out and about?
It happens quite a bit as might be imagined\u2026 ain\u2019t a whole lot of guys walking about with chin whiskers of length yet we\u2019re OK with it for the most part. Halloween allows us a free night out. And, quite frequently we do connect with our recordings through radio station lists and elsewhere\u2026 even broadcast overhead into shopping stores yet it\u2019s always intriguing to ponder the context. I mean \u201cSharp Dressed Man\u201d is the perfect foil inside haberdasheries, and that\u2019s always OK.
How does a song like \u201cLa Grange\u201d come together in a jam session? Do you remember the moment everything clicked?
The theme covered, without question, is a reflection a common experience for quite a few of us Texans. Going down to what became known as \u201cthe chicken ranch\u201d was a downright rite of passage.That theme, combined with the raunch art of the blues underpinning kind of felt second nature to us. Yeah, the songs\u2019 credit could easily pass collectively as created by a generation.
Shameless question alert! Does being in the Rock Hall of Fame come with any perks that the general public doesn\u2019t know about?
One is privy to include writing it on one\u2019s resume. We\u2019re still hankering for free parking wherever\u2026 Perhaps the greatest \u201cperk\u201d associated with induction is in our stance getting to spend quality time with Keith Richards who, of course delivered the timeless honors sliding us right in.
You opened for Jimi Hendrix in the late \u201860s. What did you learn from touring with him over a short period of time?
Jimi exemplified the guitar being what one can make it. Fender, Gibson, etc. may have constructed a wide range to thrash on yet it\u2019s in the making it speak which tells the tale. Offstage, Jimi was actually a bit soft-spoken, even carrying the poise of a semi-shy kinda guy until the lights went on turning mild into wild on stage. Jimi exuded innovation being only limited by one\u2019s imagination.
What\u2019s a new song of yours that you love playing live? What\u2019s an old one you never tire of?
\u201cLiving It Up Down In Texas\u201d written explicitly for Paramount\u2019s \u2018Landman\u2019 TV series, a great anthem we think, leading to the next release with the simplicity of every man being the recording of another singalong number, \u201cBrown Paper Bag\u201d. We continue delivering \u201cBus\u201d and \u201cJesus\u201d as a connected medley which is the odd pairing we never tire of.
Who do you like to see perform live?
We\u2019re always gonna be nearby for the Rolling Stones as well as taking interest with a wave of some newer cats like Gary Clark, Jr. and Christone \u201cKingfish\u201d Ingram. Stepping inside witnessing performers of all styles in a live event remains a magnetic opportunity for discovery.
What\u2019s the craziest thing that\u2019s happened at one of your concerts?
When we did the Worldwide Texas Tour with a whole zoo\u2019s worth of livestock, one of our favorite stage birds escaped, circling the circumference of the performance arena, only to be seen making a return and landing atop our handlers\u2019 hat!. Full of gusto, foot-stompin\u2019 guitars and soulful vocals, the offering is unmistakably ZZ Top-esque.

In fact, he\u2019s so celebrated on the kit that he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble. \u201cHe\u2019s one of the most legendary drummers out there,\u201d Gibbons told us. \u201cThe one element springing to mind is \u2018indefatigable.\u2019 The Energizer Bunny has nary nothing on \u2018The Whip.’\u201d
