Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told Us Weekly on Monday that Annie, who went to dinner with Nancy on Saturday night, didn\u2019t notice any \u201cred flags\u201d about her mom\u2019s behavior throughout the evening.
Nanos said \u201cthe family took her home from dinner at about 9:30 to 9:45 [p.m.],\u201d so investigators \u201cwould back that up to even say 9 or 8:30 p.m. to start looking.\u201d
At around 11 the next morning, a parishioner at Nancy\u2019s church called her family to let them know that she did not attend that morning\u2019s service, which was unusual, Nanos explained during a press conference Monday morning.
The family then went to Nancy\u2019s house to look for her and called 911 at around 12:15 p.m.
Therefore, investigators believe Nancy went missing between 9:30 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday.
\u201cThis is an 84-year-old lady who is safe in her own home, asleep, and she is taken. That should never happen,\u201d Nanos told Us Weekly, adding that Savannah did not \u201craise any concerns\u201d about her mom\u2019s health prior to her disappearance.
Nancy lives alone in her home, located in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood of Tucson.
She has \u201cphysical ailments\u201d and mobility issues that prevent her from walking more than 50 yards by herself, according to her family, but she is \u201cof great sound mind\u201d and \u201csharp as a tack,\u201d so it\u2019s unlikely that she \u201cjust wandered off.\u201d
However, Nancy takes daily medication that can lead to fatal consequences if missed. Notably, the medication \u2014 along with her cellphone, wallet, keys and car \u2014 were all left behind.
Upon searching the home, Nanos said it became apparent to investigators that they were looking at a crime scene. Nanos called the findings \u201cvery concerning\u201d and \u201csuspicious in nature,\u201d adding that they believe Nancy was \u201cabducted\u201d and \u201charmed\u201d in the process.
While he did not elaborate on the nature of the potential injuries, law enforcement sources told the Los Angeles Times that blood was found in the home, though it\u2019s unclear whose it is, and there were signs of forced entry.
Nanos also told CNN that there has been no indication that this is a ransom situation, but he made sure to note that investigators will \u201cnever rule it out.\u201d
Savannah, 54, was absent from Monday and Tuesday\u2019s \u201cToday\u201d show to be with her family and help look for her mom. She sent in a statement that was read aloud, in which she thanked everyone for their thoughts, prayers and support.
The beloved broadcast journalist later took to Instagram to ask for prayers and leads while maintaining hope and faith that her mom will be returned safe and sound.
