The gist of the news is that Samsung is reportedly setting a higher production goal for the Galaxy Z Fold 8, versus a smaller number of Galaxy Z Flip 8 models. This is a reversal, wherein Samsung is making an effort to create more of the larger foldable device than the smaller, less expensive, clamshell phone.
Industry sources, courtesy of ETNews, state that Samsung is aiming for a Galaxy Z Fold 8 production total somewhere around 3.5 million units, whereas the Galaxy Z Flip 8 may end up coming in at 3 million, on the high side. The insider said Samsung\u2019s Flip has surpassed the Fold \u201cfor the first time in the annual foldable phone production plan.\u201d
This comes as Samsung had a very successful year after releasing the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The device came with several generational improvements, but more notably, it marked a key milestone in device thickness. No other devices were able to top the Fold 7\u2019s 8.9mm profile; even Honor struggled to develop a thinner foldable.
There\u2019s little word on what key improvements Samsung will make with the Galaxy Z Fold 8, and how it will compare to the success of the previous model. Samsung isn\u2019t likely to make any announcements until later in the year, especially on the cusp of the Galaxy S26 launch this month.
