Michael Douglas and Jack Nicholson collaborated on the 1975 film „One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest“ together.<\/b>
\nMichael Douglas is recounting what his close pal Jack Nicholson would give him a hard time about back in the day.
\u201c[The character\u2019s] hair has always been an important part of my acting,\u201d the \u201cChina Syndrome\u201d actor, 81, explained during a Q&A before a screening of his 1987 film \u201cWall Street\u201d last month. \u201cIt\u2019s just funny how that kind of thing helps.\u201d
\u201cJack Nicholson always used to give me sh\u2013t about hair acting. [He\u2019d say], \u2018What\u2019s with his hair acting?\u2019 I said, \u2018You should talk,\u2019\u201d Douglas teased.
While the Oscar winner and \u201cThe Shining\u201d star, 88, were never in a movie together, they did collaborate on the 1975 film \u201cOne Flew Over the Cuckoo\u2019s Nest.\u201c
Nicholson starred as Randle McMurphy while Douglas worked as a producer.
In recent years, Nicholson has kept a low profile, last appearing in the 2010 rom-com \u201cHow Do You Know.\u201d
Meanwhile, Douglas has also stepped back from acting, revealing in July that he was happy to be out of the spotlight.
\u201cI have not worked since 2022 purposefully because I realized I had to stop,\u201d the \u201cFatal Attraction\u201d actor said while at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival in the Czech Republic, per Variety, at the time. \u201cI had been working pretty hard for almost 60 years, and I did not want to be one of those people who dropped dead on the set.\u201d
\u201cI have no real intentions of going back,\u201d Douglas continued. \u201cI say I\u2019m not retired because if something special came up, I\u2019d go back, but otherwise, no.\u201d
Douglas last acted as Benjamin Franklin in the 2024 miniseries \u201cFranklin,\u201d on Apple TV+.
The director, who tied the knot with Catherine Zeta-Jones in 2000, also opened up about how his throat cancer diagnosis impacted his acting career.
\u201cStage 4 cancer is not a holiday, but there aren\u2019t many choices, are there?,\u201d he elaborated. \u201cI went with the program, involving chemo and radiation, and was fortunate. The surgery would have meant not being able to talk and removing part of my jaw and that would have been limiting as an actor.\u201d
Douglas added that he has \u201cone little independent movie\u201d that he\u2019s \u201ctrying to get a good script out of,\u201d but \u201cin the spirit of maintaining a good marriage\u201d he\u2019s \u201chappy to play the wife.\u201d
In May, Douglas told Deadline that he doesn\u2019t miss being on camera.
\u201cI\u2019m enjoying my hiatus and enjoying my life,\u201d he gushed. \u201cIt was overwhelming running the production company and acting at the same time.\u201d
\u201cIf something good comes up that I really like. But I don\u2019t feel a burning desire,\u201d Douglas, who runs the independent production Further Films, noted. \u201cI\u2019m still producing. I still love bringing people together.\u201d
Douglas also shut down speculation that he would entertain another Marvel movie after starring as Hank Pym in the \u201cAnt-Man\u201d trilogy and \u201cAvengers: Endgame.\u201d
\u201cI don\u2019t think so. I had the experience, and I was excited to do it,\u201d Douglas stated. \u201cI\u2019d never done a green screen picture before.\u201d
Zeta-Jones, 56, also confirmed last year she was stepping away from mainstream Hollywood to focus on indie projects.
\u201cI want to turn up. I want to do some interesting work,\u201d she expressed at the 2025 Red Sea Film Festival.
\u201cIt goes back to my theater thinking, because I don\u2019t feel I have to prove anything to anybody,\u201d Zeta-Jones added. \u201cI don\u2019t have to work hard for other people.\u201d<\/p>\n
