The four men, aged between 24 and 34, came to the city with two-way permits, a police source said. Police believed they were linked with a series of burglaries that involved upscale houses in Sai Kung and Tseung Kwan O in the New Territories. The suspects had been placed under police surveillance after they recently re-entered Hong Kong from the mainland. They were tailed on Clear Water Bay road in Sai Kung as they entered a house on Friday night. The tenants were not at home at the time. When they exited the house, officers moved in and arrested them. An officer was slightly injured in the raid as one suspect resisted arrest. Police seized a stun gun and some burglary equipment in the operation. Officers from Kowloon east regional crime unit are investigating. Police have been investigating the suspects for more than a month. They were said to belong to a notorious village gang in southern Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, where most villagers are surnamed Wei. Two of the arrested suspects are surnamed Wei. High-end household burglaries in Hong Kong totalling more than HK$500,000 last year. Clear Water Bay has been a recent target for robberies. Two suspects from a gang from southwestern Guizhou province were involved in a high-profile break-in and kidnapping in December.
