\n(Angry Patriot) \u2013 As we speak, several American sailors are either missing, or injured, as the result of a crash in East Asia. In these very dangerous waters, the increased visibility of the U. S. Navy has unfortunately created this disaster.
While off the coast of Japan, the USS Fitzgerald collided with a merchant vessel flying the flag of the Philippines. The crash happened at 2: 03 a.m. local time, and soon thereafter, the American destroyer began taking water. Seven American sailors remain unaccounted for, via NBC.
We at the Angry Patriot are praying that all sailors are found alive, and healthy.
In response to the accident, the U. S. Navy called in their allies, the Japanese Coast Guard, in order to stabilize the scene and to help limit the damage, via US Defense Watch.
Japan remains one of the U. S.\u2019s greatest allies in the region, along with South Korea, and Taiwan. Their quick response to the accident should be commended.
After years of tense peace in East Asia, the waters around Japan have become a conflict zone.
To the south, a revanchist Chinese Communist Party is making claims, and building naval and air bases in the South China Sea \u2014 against the wishes of Japan, the Philippines, and Vietnam, via CNN.
Elsewhere, violent Islamist groups pose a security threat to U. S. allies in Thailand, and the Philippines. Currently, Manila is trying to remove the ISIS-linked Maute Group from the city of Marawi in the Muslim-majority island of Mindanao, via Inquirer.
The biggest threat remains North Korea, however. The Communist dictatorship of Kim Jong-un is a lethal nation that is on a war footing. Their enemies are the democratic governments of Seoul, Tokyo, and Washington, D. C.
As Pyongyang has ratcheted up the rhetoric, the Trump administration has increased sanctions, and has tested missile defense systems, like long-range interceptors, via CNN.
It is hard to predict how North Korea will spin this accident. They may use it as a propaganda victory against the American \u201cimperialists.\u201d
Or, conversely, they could do nothing, and merely call this accident an accident. Whatever the result, the U. S. must maintain its naval presence in East Asia in order to counter multiple threats in the region. We cannot abandon our allies in Seoul, Tokyo, Taipei, Bangkok, or Manila.
Let us all hope that no deaths result from this collision, and similarly let us hope that all return home safely.
