After facing numerous delays already, the release date of Overkill’s co-op first person shooter title “The Walking Dead” has been pushed back yet again, this time to the second half of 2018.
The Walking Dead started off as a series of comic books by Robert Kirkman, but over time, it has expanded to spawn a popular TV series of the same name, and several games, including The Escapists: The Walking Dead and Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead.
Another game based on the popular franchise that has been in development for quite some time is Overkill’s The Walking Dead. However, the developer has now announced that the co-op first-person shooter title has been delayed yet again, this time to the second half of 2018.
The game is being made by Overkill Software – the same company that produced the Payday series – along with Skybound Entertainment and Starbreeze. Unfortunately, for people awaiting its release, the title has been in production since 2014, and has undergone several delays already. The latest announcement means that people will have to wait at least a year more before getting their hands on The Walking Dead.
Starbreeze CEO Bo Andersson Klint claims that the title is being delayed to realize its “full potential”. A (translated) press release from the company goes on to say that:
Not much else is known abut Overkill’s upcoming take on the franchise, except that it will feature an original story, with emphasis on co-op first-person shooting, and potential for replayability with a “unique and dynamic level system.” The company will be holding a Twitch livestream on May 10 to provide insight on the development of the title.
