It should be great
Amazon announced Monday that it’s producing a streaming “Lord of the Rings” series for Prime users.
Amazon stated the following in a press release to announce the big news:
Amazon today announced it has acquired the global television rights to The Lord of the Rings, based on the celebrated fantasy novels by J. R. Tolkien, with a multi-season commitment. The upcoming Amazon Prime Original will be produced by Amazon Studios in cooperation with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins and New Line Cinema, a division of Warner Bros. Entertainment.

Set in Middle Earth, the television adaptation will explore new storylines preceding J. R. Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring. The deal includes a potential additional spin-off series.

This sounds like an awesome idea. The film series was outstanding, especially the extended director’s cut versions for the three movies. Obviously, at this point there aren’t a ton of details, but it it’d be hard to imagine a situation where Amazon could somehow screw this up. It seems like shooting fish in a barrel.
Plus, special effects have come along tenfold since the first movie was released in 2001. That gives the producers, directors, writers and special effects team that much more to work with compared to their respective counterparts in the early 2000s.
There isn’t a set release date. It’s also not known yet if this will be dumped at once, or if the series will come out in a weekly fashion.
Either way, it should be excellent.
