Previously, we have heard/seen rumors that the South Korean-based Electronics firm, Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. will showcase the Samsung Galaxy S8 successor at Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January next year. However, according to the Korea Herald reports that Samsung has dismissed the speculation of unveiling the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus at the CES by saying, “It is unlikely.”
For those unaware, Consumer Electronics Show (CES, and formerly known officially as International CES) is a global consumer electronics and consumer technology trade-show that takes place every January at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, US. The annual trade show organized by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) typically hosts presentations of new products and technologies in the consumer electronics industry, from thousands of companies all over the world.
Online media reports claim that Samsung is expected to adhere to its tradition and unveil the next Galaxy models in the S-series at the Mobile World Congress (MWC); an event that holds a combination of the world’s largest exhibition for the mobile industry and a conference featuring prominent executives representing mobile operators, device manufacturers, technology providers, vendors and content owners from across the global.
Last month, Evan Blass of VentureBeat claimed that Samsung is set to bring the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ at the CES for their “first public appearance”. Blass, who is famous for unraveling unannounced developments through his Twitter account @evleaks, also stated that both the handsets will be officially unveiled in March – a couple of months after giving their first look at the CES.
Looking at the perspective of specifications
The Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus might both have nearly identical aesthetics of their predecessors and will have some hardware upgrades to take on the competition.
The Galaxy S9 is rumored to have a 5.8-inch display, while the Galaxy S9 Plus will spot a 6.2-inch display both having Super AMOLED Infinity screens with curved edges. There is a speculation that the US version of the Galaxy S9 series will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, while its global versions would have a similarly designed Exynos chip – likely to be the recently unveiled Exynos 9810 SoC.
Both smartphones might come with 6GB RAM, and may even get up to 512GB of onboard storage thanks to the newly unveiled eUFS solution from Samsung, coupled with microSD card support. Samsung is likely to provide google’s latest mobile operating system; the Android Oreo on the Galaxy S9 family with a new version of its TouchWiz UX, might also pack a dual camera setup.
