Intel acknowledges to Spectre and Meltdown flaws. The performance ofold version is mostly hampered. Intel admits that on high-performance machines which requires processes like complex JavaScript operations, the slowdown could reach upto10 percent.
Intel confirmed that the Meltdown and Spectre flaws are slowing the performance of its devices. However intel has smartly responded to the solution by claimimg that average computer users should not be affected.
Intel had announced the patches for Meltdown and Spectre hardware flaws however the exact number of devices affected remains unknown. It is being reported that the devices which are affected are made of older version of hardware and software. Almost most of the devices were effected by these Meltdown and Spectre flaws including the Apple devices. Both the “Spectre and Meltdown” flaws affect the performance of CPU feature called Speculative Execution which is responsible for improving speed and operate multiple operations.
A recent Mirosoft benchmark verified that the Meltdown and Spectre affects the processor which runs on old hardware. The performance of Old Microsoft devices are hampered however some of the devices which runs on new hardware are also affected.
Intel has made some claims that the 8th generation platforms called Kaby Lake and Coffee Lake, with an SSD(Solid state drive) are affected ona small level. The impact on the performance could be up to 6 percent when office productivity and media creation software would be rolled out. However Intel admits that on high-performance machines which requires processes like complex JavaScript operations, the slowdown could reach upto10 percent.
Intel however is emphasizing on customer security and is promising in delivering latest updates in the coming months to minimize the damage which can be caused due to Meltdown and Spectre security flaws.
The company also claimed that Windows 7 is suffering a slowdown of 6 percent, lower than the Skylake-s platform. Intel also claims that Skylake s-platform suffers from a higher performance impact and the data shows it to be of approximately 8 percent as compared to 6 percent of Windows.
Intel is taking the Meltdown and Spectre flaw quite seriously and is working to release further updates in the coming weeks and months. This is to minimize the performance impact of the original Meltdown and Spectre patches on Intel devices.
