The man who fatally shot himself outside the White House has been identified as a 26-year-old Alabama resident.
The man who fatally shot himself outside the White House on Saturday has been identified as a 26-year-old Alabama resident.
Cameron Ross Burgess approached the fence-line on the north side and fired his weapon multiple times just before noon, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. He did not appear to be aiming for the White House.
His remains have been transported to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy, cops said Sunday.
Cops said that Burgess is from Maylene, Ala.
Man commits suicide on north side of the White House
President Trump was in Florida at the time of the shooting, and he spent the night at Mar-a-Lago, his Palm Beach estate.
Video recorded at the scene showed crowds of people running away.
“White House currently locked down,” NBC News photographer Paul Rigney tweeted. “Reports of two loud booms/shots on the North Side. Currently sheltering in place in basement area of Briefing Room.”
The suicide took place a week after an armed Tennessee woman slammed her car into a security barrier near the White House.
