Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has confirmed that the Mi Max 3 does indeed exist and it could come out some time in July.
Thanks to some case renders last month, rumours began to develop about a possible Mi Max 3 phone in the offing. Now, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has confirmed that the phone does indeed exist and it could come out some time in July. The Mi Max series is Xiaomi’s range of phablet phones and the Mi Max 3 will likely follow the same larger-than-life design language, but perhaps with a more 2018 look and feel.
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun asked in a Weibo post what new products consumers were most looking forward to from its May-end launch. This, of course, points towards the much-rumoured Mi 7 or Xiaomi’s special 8th Anniversary Edition phone that could be called Mi 8, and perhaps the Mi Band 3 as well. However, within the post, a consumer responded to Jun’s question by asking about the Mi Max 3, to which the Xiaomi CEO replied that the phablet is “not yet ready” and is estimated to release in July.
Last month, some alleged case renders of the Mi Max 3 surfaces that suggested that the phablet will come with a dual rear camera setup as opposed to the single rear camera on the Mi Max 2. This won’t be surprising as dual cameras are now the norm. Additionally, it was also reported at the time that the Mi Max 3 could sport an enormous 7-inch display. Now, that’s bordering on a tablet right there, but the one most logical way in which Xiaomi is likely to make this happen is by reducing the bezels around the display substantially. An 18:9 aspect ratio would allow for a bigger display while maintaining the same footprint as the Mi Max 2.
As far as everything else is concerned, past reports suggest the Mi Max 3 could be powered by a Snapdragon 660 chipset with up to 6GB of RAM. The phablet is also expected to run Android Oreo-based MIUI out-of-the-box and could house a massive 5,500mAh battery. Additionally, the Mi Max 3 could bring some features like wireless charging and iris scanner, among other things.
