HTC, at long last, today has introduced a more affordable counterpart of its U12 Plus flagship. The new U12 Life costs less than half the price of the U12 Plus and avoids all the latest trends with a standard headphone jack as well as a notch-less front. The most striking aspect of the U12 Life is, however, is the two-tone design on the rear with a shiny top section paired with a plasticky bottom. The aesthetic is reminiscent of the phone maker’s windows phone from the early days and a tad of Google’s Pixel line.
In addition, the HTC U12 Life offers a 6-inch tall screen with a 1080p resolution and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor. There’s 4GB of RAM, up to 128GB of onboard storage which can be expanded with a MicroSD card, and a large 3,600mAh battery.
The camera arrangement houses two sensors on the rear — a primary 16-megapixel lens and another 5-megapixel one for depth-sensing. For selfies, it has a single 13-megapixel snapper coupled with a soft LED flash and HDR. The U12 Life also offers stereo speakers and Dual-SIM compatibility in a few regions. Out of the box, you get Android 8.1 with the company’s own skin on top.
Interestingly, the HTC U12 Life isn’t expected to launch in the US, but coming to Europe and the Middle East. The phone has an acrylic glass unibody design with a ‘metal-like design’. At 349 Euros, it’s definitely getting into the ‘premium mid-range’ segment, something that hasn’t been HTC’s stronghold for a while now.
