The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has just been unveiled by Samsung at its Unpacked event in New York, and the lived up to all the hype the rumors had created leading up to the event. While the device is the latest and greatest from Samsung, here’s how it compares to the flagships from other OEM’s, in particular, the iPhone X and Oppo Find X.
Unlike the OnePlus 6, the flagship devices come with a flagship price. The Oppo Find X comes in at ₹ 59,990 for 256GB of internal storage and 8GB of RAM. The iPhone X costs an eye-watering ₹ 82,799 for the 64GB model, while pricing for the new Note 9 is expected to sit in the middle of the two at ₹ 69,999 as the price for India has yet to be announced, translating the cost directly from GBP of £1099 for the 512GB model converts to around ₹ 97,096.
The Galaxy Note 9 features the biggest screen on a Note device so far at 6.4-inches at 1440 x 2960 that offers a huge 516 pixels-per-inch and achieves an 83.4% screen-to-body ratio for the Super AMOLED panel, which is protected by Gorilla Glass 5. The Oppo Find X has a slightly larger display at 6.42-inches with an AMOLED capacitive touchscreen at 1080 x 2340 resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio with 401 pixels-per-inch. The lack of bezels and use of a motorized mechanism to hide the cameras means the Oppo Find X has a massive 87% screen-to-body ratio. In comparison, the iPhone X has the smallest display of the bunch at 5.8-inches with 1125 x 2436 resolution and 458 pixels-per-inch that offers an 82.9% screen-to-body ratio at a 19.5:9 ratio.
With the Note 9 being the newest of the devices, it’s no surprise that it runs the latest Snapdragon 845 processor in the USA and China or an Exynos 9810 in Europe. The Oppo Find X is on par with the Note 9 with its Snapdragon 845, while the iPhone X has Apple’s A11 Bionic chip. Apple’s device comes with only 3GB of RAM but running iOS is extremely well optimized. The Note 9 comes with 8GB of RAM in the 512GB variant with 6GB of RAM for the 128GB model, while the Oppo Find X comes with 8GB of RAM in both the 128GB and 256GB variant.
The iPhone X packs a dual camera array on the rear that sees a 12-megapixel f/1.8 lens paired with another 12-megapixel lens at f/2.4 that work together to produce excellent low-light results. The front-facing camera is a 7-megapixel shooter at f/2.2 that offers Face ID. The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is a familiar setup that we saw in the S9+ with a variable aperture 12-megapixel lens with a range of f/1.5-2.4 paired with a 12-megapixel f/2.4 lens. There’s also an 8-megapixel f/1.7 lens up front. As far as the Oppo Find X goes, you’ll get a pop-up 16-megapixel f/2.0 camera paired with a 20-megapixel f/2.0 lens with a 25-megapixel f/2.0 front-facing camera.
Both the Oppo Find X and Samsung Galaxy Note 9 ship with Android 8.1 Oreo, while the iPhone X runs Apple’s iOS platform. Apple’s device has a rather tiny 2716mAh battery but again benefits from the optimizations of iOS, while the Note 9 has a standout 4000mAh battery, and the Find X sees a 3730mAh battery.
If the price were no concern, the Galaxy Note 9 would win hands-down thanks to its larger battery, and variable aperture that we know has yielded excellent results in the Galaxy S9+. For the budget conscious of us out there, the Oppo Find X is an extremely good device, although there are question marks around the longevity of that motorized mechanism. Of course, if you’re invested in the Apple ecosystem, then your only real option here is the iPhone X.
