Now, Samsung is looking to take some additional shots at the iPhone X on its own with a fresh round of ‘Ingenious’ ads.
Now, Samsung is looking to take some additional shots at the iPhone X with a fresh round of ” Ingenious ” ads. The new ads, “Pen” and “Power”, highlight two of the headliner features of the Galaxy Note 9.
The first commercial dubbed “Pen” talks up the Galaxy Note 9’s powerful Bluetooth-enabled S Pen. A customer talks with an Apple Genius and asks about the difference between the Galaxy Note 9’s S Pen and the Bluetooth-equipped Apple Pencil. When the Apple Genius responds that the Apple Pencil is limited to working with just the iPad/iPad Pro, the customers asks, “Okay, so what can I use on my phone?”
The Genius is left to respond, “Your finger?”
It’s a rather curious omission that the Apple Pencil doesn’t work with the iPhone X, but given the size of the writing/drawing device, it would likely be unwieldy with the relatively small 5.8-inch smartphone. Perhaps Apple will add support with the larger, 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus that is rumored to launch next month.
In the “Power” ad, a man chatting with a Genius remarks about how powerful the Galaxy Note 9 is, which is powered by Qualcomm ‘s latest 10nm octa-core Snapdragon 845 processor. Rather than talk up the power of the iPhone X’s A11 SoC, which outpaces the Snapdragon 845 in some benchmarks, the Genius counters with, “You know what I think is powerful? Being able to unlock your phone with your face”.
The customer responds, “It does that too”, referring to the Galaxy Note 9. The Apple Genius gathers his thoughts, and talks up the ability to FaceTime with up to 32 people at once. “Why would I ever want to do that though,” the customer wisely asks.
This is just the latest in a line of Ingenious ads that Samsung has rolled out to mock Apple over the past few months. The South Korean electronics giant is looking to gain some momentum with the Galaxy Note 9 after disappointing sales of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, which led to lower than expected earnings. Although the Galaxy Note 9 is packed to the gills with high-tech features, its price tag of $999 for the 128GB model and $1,249 for the 512GB model puts it in rarefied territory.
