According to the latest research report by IDC, Xiaomi has retained its first position in India’s smartphone market in Q2 2018.
“Xiaomi claimed a market share of 29.7 percent in India in the second quarter of the year”
Last month, Counterpoint and Canalys released their latest reports regarding the state of India’s smartphone market. Their findings suggested that the competition between Samsung and Xiaomi in the country is really close. However, the latest market report by IDC (International Data Corporation) claims otherwise.
IDC’s report suggests that Xiaomi has retained its number one position in India’s smartphone market with a share of 29.7 percent. Samsung took the second spot with a market share of 23.9 percent. As per this report, the gap between Xiaomi and Samsung in the country is quite huge, as compared to the minor difference suggested by Counterpoint and Canalys.
As per the latest IDC report, Xiaomi has 24 percent higher smartphone shipments than the second largest manufacturer in the country. The brand claimed a share of 56 percent in the online segment and 33 percent in offline market. Four out of the top five smartphones in Q2 2018 were Xiaomi products. These were the Xiaomi Redmi 5A, Redmi Note 5 Pro, Redmi Note 5, and Redmi 5, which accounted for 26 percent of overall shipments during the period. The Redmi 5A continued to rank as the number one selling handset after seven months, with more than three million units shipped in the quarter.
Manu Jain, Vice President, Xiaomi and Managing Director, Xiaomi India said, “This is a proud moment for Xiaomi India as we have continued ranking as the number one smartphone vendor in India for the fourth quarter in a row. We are so grateful for the immense love and support we have received from millions of Mi Fans, who have believed in us every step of the way. As for the other manufacturers, the third spot on the report is taken by Vivo with a market share of 12.6 percent. OPPO was on the fourth place, grabbing a share of 7.6 percent. Notably, Transsion continued to be on the fifth position with a market share of five percent.
