Kim and Kourtney Kardashians were among the stars that revealed they’ve left their homes amid ongoing wildfires in their area.
A series of wildfires raging through Southern California have threatened thousands of homes this week, including those of multiple celebrities. Although the Los Angeles Fire Department chief tweeted Friday morning that the evacuation order for Los Angeles City had been changed from “mandatory” to “voluntary,” the blaze wasn’t yet contained and had already damaged multiple structures, according to NBC News.
Actress and activist Alyssa Milano tweeted Thursday night that she had to leave her Bell Canyon home due to the fire, adding that she didn’t take much with her. Her husband was apparently in New York at the time.
Two Kardashians took to Instagram to document their evacuation. Kim shared in a Story that she had to leave pretty quickly, and she thanked the fire department, writing in a later Story, “Thank you for all that you do for us!!!”
Kourtney posted a photo of her car’s trunk to show the reality of only packing a few bags in order to get out quickly. Kendall Jenner was in New York Thursday night for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, so she missed the chaos.
The fires reached Thousand Oaks, where 12 people were killed Wednesday night in a mass shooting. The Office star Rainn Wilson, reporting that he was forced to leave, urged people to donate to his neighbors who had to evacuate while still grappling with the previous night’s tragedy.
California Gov.-elect Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency and requested federal funds to fight the fires on Thursday while Gov. Jerry Brown was out of the state.
“These statewide weather conditions are predicted to remain in California for several days,” Newsom said in a letter to the president and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). He went on to say, “These fires will continue to grow and pose further threat to the health and safety of residents throughout California.”
Cal Fire told CNN multiple injuries have been reported by both residents and firefighters. More than 2,200 firefighters were working to stop the flames on Thursday night.
