Man runs down street taking off clothes before charging deputy, police say

The suspect, a Sand Lake =man, was arrested on several charges, police said.
HOWARD CITY, MI – Police used a Taser to subdue a Sand Lake man who allegedly charged a sheriff’s deputy responding to a report of the man running down the street, yelling and removing his clothes, police said.
David Nichols, 31, is charged with resisting an officer causing injuries, two counts of resisting and obstructing an officer and malicious destruction of police property, police said.
He is held in Montcalm County Jail on $5,000 bond.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to Elmwood Road and Fir Lane in Howard City around 1: 20 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, on a report of a man running in the street, screaming, and taking off his clothes.
When a sheriff’s deputy confronted the man, later identified as Nichols, « Nichols charged the officer, pushed him aside, and began striking the patrol car,  » Sheriff Michael Williams said.
The deputy tried to arrest the suspect but he esisted police and fled. The deputy, assisted by two state police troopers, eventually arrested Nichols. Police tased him multiple times, police said.
The deputy was treated at a hospital for minor injuries and released, police said.
