The New York Public Library and the Brooklyn Public Library have partnered with the Kanopy movie service to give cardholders access to more than 30,000 films — including a number in the Criterion Collection.
NYPL members can view up to 10 films a month and each patron has three days to watch the films, according to NYPL spokesperson Angela Montefinise.
Brooklyn Public Library cardholders have different benefits — they can only view six films a month, according to Montefinise.

In order to sign up for a library card, you can easily do it online on the SimplyE app, but to gain access to services like Kanopy, cardholders need to « upgrade » in a physical library location.
Kanopy films — which are easily searchable via an online database — can be viewed on smartphones, tablets, TVs and computers.
Criterion Collection films are comprised of movies deemed « important » by the distribution company and have been licensed and preserved to provide viewers access to the classics.
