White House adviser Jared Kushner set up a private email account last December that he used to correspond with other officials in the Trump administration.
That’s according to Politico, which reported Sunday that President Trump’s son-in-law used the private account to swap messsages with White House figures like former strategist Steve Bannon and former chief of staff Reince Priebus as well as current economics adviser Gary Cohn and spokesman Josh Raffel.
Topics of the emails included event details and media coverage, according to the report.
A lawyer of Kushner, Abbe Lowell, confirmed Kushner’s use of a personal account to communicate with White House staffers.
“Fewer than 100 emails from January through August were either sent to or returned by Mr. Kushner to colleagues in the White House from his personal email account, » Lowell said in a statement.
« These usually forwarded news articles or political commentary and most often occurred when someone initiated the exchange by sending an email to his personal rather than his White House address.”
During his presidential campaign, Trump consistently criticized Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton for her use of a private email server, which she did use to send classified material .
