An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.2 jolted northern Iraq Sunday.

The U. S. Geological Survey confirmed the quake on its website, placing its epicenter at around 19 miles outside the Iraqi city of Halabja, and issuing an “orange” alert for “shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. »
There are reports the earthquake was felt as far away as Tehran and Baghdad. Both cities are hundreds of miles away.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or casualties.
