With the Apple iPhone X going on sale this month, rumours about the next iPhone have already started flowing in, thanks to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. According to the analyst, Apple could introduce two new full-screen iPhones next year. Kuo has hinted at the possibility that the company might introduce new 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch models with OLED displays. Furthermore, a lower-priced 6.1-inch model sporting an LCD display is also on the cards in 2018.
As MacRumors reports, Apple hopes to satisfy various needs of the high-end market by expanding its bezel-less smartphone line-up. All the three rumoured offerings, if they see the light of the day, will sport the much-talked-about notch in the iPhone X. The high-end 6.5-inch OLED iPhone is expected to be the iPhone X Plus. This will be followed by an updated version of the 5.8-inch OLED iPhone X. Finally, the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone will settle below these two variants in the product hierarchy.
KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, in a research note, said “ Two new OLED models target high-end market; new TFT-LCD model aims at low-end & midrange markets. We believe the major hardware difference in the two new OLED models is size, in a bid to satisfy various needs of the high-end market. The new TFT-LCD model will differ significantly from the OLED models in hardware and design specs (for instance, the PPI will be lower). The primary selling points of the TFT-LCD model may be the innovative user experience of an integrated full-screen design and 3D sensing with a lower price tag.”
All the three models will come with the same TrueDepth camera and the notched screen. Further, Kuo predicts that the 6.1-inch phone is set apart by having a reduced screen resolution. It will target the low-end to the mid-range smartphone market and could be priced somewhere between ₹42,500 to ₹49,000. He also mentioned that the iPhone models should launch without any delays in 2018, considering Apple’s suppliers will be comfortable with the iPhone X production process by that time.
