Following Friday’s attack that left more than 230 people dead in Egypt, President Donald Trump suggested that the United States could prevent a similar attack by building a wall along the southern border and enacting a travel ban on Muslim-majority countries:

“We have to get TOUGHER AND SMARTER than ever before, and we will,” Trump tweeted Friday. Trump said he would call Egypt’s leader about the attack, which left 109 injured at a mosque in Egypt’s North Sinai region.
Trump’s tweet came after calls — which started during his campaign — for tougher national security. While Trump has yet to build a border wall, he enacted travel bans that faced multiple legal challenges.
It’s unclear whether the travel ban will pass legal muster or if Congress will pass funding for the border wall. At the beginning of the month, Trump requested $1.6 billion from Congress to fund a border wall but faced staunch opposition from Democrats.
