President Donald Trump will undergo a physical at the beginning of 2018 and the results will subsequently be released, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders announced Thursday.
Sanders’ remarks came after criticism of Trump’s slurred speech during a foreign policy announcement Wednesday.
“There were a lot of questions on that — frankly, pretty ridiculous questions,” Sanders told reporters at the White House press briefing. “The president’s throat was dry, nothing more than that.”
Trump similarly slurred some words in a November speech after he returned from China. He took a sip of water and resumed speaking normally.
Sanders added that like presidents before him, Trump will undergo a “full physical” at Walter Reed military hospital. The spokeswoman said, “those records will be released by the doctor following that.”
Trump,71, was the oldest president to be elected. He eschews exercise and frequently eats fast food.
His personal doctor, Harold Bornstein, released a letter in December 2015 that declared if Trump was elected he would be the “healthiest individual” ever to become president.
