Nintendo reveals that the Detective Pikachu Amiibo releasing alongside the Detective Pikachu 3DS game will help unlock clue cutscenes faster when playing.
With the upcoming adventure title Detective Pikachu set to hit store shelves next month, Nintendo has revealed more information on how the amiibo that is releasing alongside the game, will affect gameplay.
Detective Pikachu, which came out in Japan in winter 2016 under the title The Great Detective Pikachu, is finally seeing a western release on March 23. In it, players control a young boy who joins up with Pokemon’s electric mouse-cot, who in this game, can talk and is a private investigator. The pair go around solving puzzles in the game’s world, similar to the Professor Layton games that were first released on the original DS, with the player character being a sort of Watson to Pikachu’s Sherlock.
Players receive clues via cutscenes referred to as “Pika Prompts” to help them solve the puzzles. Having the Amiibo will unlock these scenes at a faster rate, meaning players who didn’t purchase it will still be able to unlock these hints, albeit at a slower pace. This means gamers who don’t pick up the Amiibo won’t be missing out on any in-game content. The Amiibo itself is larger than the regular Pikachu figure that was previously released and, of course, features Pikachu in his detective hat.
Not only is the game seeing a western release, but a live-action movie adaptation of the title is set to hit theaters in May of 2019. This means Pikachu fans and Pokemon fans in general will at least have one Pokemon related thing to look forward to next year. That is, unless the upcoming Pokemon game for the Switch gets released in 2019, as well.
There were many rumors of who would play the titular role that ranged from The Rock to a fan petition that was created to have Danny DeVito play Pikachu. It was finally announced that Ryan Reynolds had been cast as the lead role for the film, which has already begun filming. The movie is being released by Universal Pictures and Dreamworks Entertainment. Little else is known about the film, other than the plot will be based of that of the game’s and that it is the first live-action Pokemon film to be made.
Detective Pikachu releases in the U. S. and Europe for the 3DS on March 23rd.
