Recently, a rumor emerged suggesting Nvidia is working on a 3 GB variant of GTX 1050 and now Nvidia has officially announced the Nvidia GTX 1050 3 GB variant with upgraded specs compared to the 2 GB variant.
While it was speculated that the Nvidia GTX 1050 3 GB variant might be exclusive to China but turns out it is not. As for the Specs, well they have been boosted compared to the 2 GB variant.
The 2 GB variant of the 1050 features 640 Cuda Cores, 7 Gbps memory speed and a boost clock of 1455 MHz. The 3 GB variant ups these specs with 768 Cuda Cores and 1455 MHz boost clock.
Surprisingly, this 3 GB variant of GTX 1050 features 126 MHz higher boost clock compared to 1050 Ti.
However, not all of the specs have seen a boost as Memory Interface Width and Memory Bandwidth has been downgraded for this new 3 GB variant. The 2 GB variant features 128-bit Memory Interface Width and 112 GB/s Memory Bandwidth. These have been downgraded for the 3 GB variant.
Nvidia has been introducing these new variants for its already existing GPUs like the GTX 1060 based on GP104 GPU. The GP104 is the same one used in the GTX 1080,1070 Ti as well as the 1070. Other than that, the specs are identical to the previous variant of GTX 1060. Also, this version of GTX 1060 is exclusive to China.
However, this does raise a concern that if Nvidia will be announcing its next-gen GPUs or not? It seems that Nvidia is trying to hold off its next-gen GPUs for 2019 with these new variants of already existing GPUs.
But, this speculation contradicts the report making rounds on the internet suggesting that Next-Gen Nvidia GPUs, presumably GTX 1180 or GTX 2080, are coming in July. According to the report, industry sources have revealed that next-gen Nvidia GPUs will be available in July 2018.
What do you think of this 3 GB variant of the Nvidia GTX 1050? Let us know in the comments.
