Record-high graduation rate reached for Lee County schools

A Lee County School Board member said this year’s high school graduation rate is the largest ever in school district history.
Almost 90 percent of students who started high school in 2014 in the county left with a diploma in 2018. This does not include graduation rate data from charter schools.
Steve Teuber, LCSD board member, said the graduation rate was less than 80 percent when he started the job in 2002.
« It’s a lot of how we target, how our teachers teach, to take their lesson plans and actually be innovative and actually look at what each student needs to meet their maximum potential, » Teuber said.
Lee County School District’s goal is to increase its graduation rate to 92 percent by 2020.
A total of more 5,000 seniors in the county graduated high school this year.
