Brooks Koepka Wins the U. S. Open Again

Koepka, 28, won at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, becoming the first player since 1989 to win the title in consecutive years.
SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. — Brooks Koepka became the first player in nearly two decades to win the United States Open in back-to-back years, triumphing at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club on Sunday, a year after his victory at Erin Hills in Wisconsin.
Koepka, 28, began the day holding a share of the lead with Dustin Johnson, Daniel Berger and Tony Finau at three over par, then played with poise through in the final round.
The last player to win consecutive U. S. Open titles was Curtis Strange, in 1989.
When he won at Erin Hills, Koepka finished 16 under par. It was his first major title.
Koepka, known for his prodigious power, injured his wrist shortly after winning at Erin Hills. The setback allowed him to focus on his short game.
It paid off. After a 75 on Thursday, Koepka rebounded. And on Sunday, he became only the seventh player to win the U. S. Open twice in a row.
