“I’m going to say one thing. F**k Trump.”
This phrase earned actor Robert De Niro a standing ovation Sunday night at the Tony Awards after he appeared onstage to introduce musician Bruce Springsteen.
“It’s no longer ‘down with Trump,” De Niro said. “It’s ‘f**k Trump.”
CBS censored the profanities during the broadcast in the United States, which was on a 10-second delay .
“Mr. De Niro’s comments were unscripted and unexpected,” a CBS spokesperson said in a statement . “The offensive language was deleted from the broadcast.”
An uncensored clip from Australian TV circulated through social media Sunday night:

Actors and other backstage guests at Radio City Music Hall saw the uncensored version of the broadcast in the press room.
“Who’s going to argue with him?” playwright Tony Kushner told Deadline, referring to De Niro. Kushner later said, “[Trump] should not be anywhere near the seat of power.”
Los Angeles Times contributor Virginia Heffernan tweeted that De Niro deserved a Pulitzer for his words:
I can’t stop thinking about that swift, incisive editorial last night. Two monosyllables. Underscoring the presidency’s baseline indececency with a violation of “decency.” The satire of “norms.” I’d say Robert De Niro deserved a Pulitzer for if he didn’t deserve a… Tony.

Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer appeared on Fox Business Network to criticize the “Taxi Driver” actor.
“These people are trying to make every one of these shows a political cause,” Spicer said. “It’s completely inappropriate to do that to a prime-time television audience.”
Spicer also said De Niro represents the “hypocrisy of the left.”
De Niro has been known for being outspoken about the president in the past. Last year, he called him a “ mutt,” and earlier this year at the Tribeca Film Festival, he called Trump a “ lowlife-in-chief .”
