Two years after Kim Kardashian called Taylor Swift a snake on social media, the pop star’s wearing her scales with pride.
On Tuesday, July 17 — also known as National Snake Day, and the anniversary of Kardashian’s viral tweet — Swift stepped out in NYC wearing a faux snakeskin backpack by Kate Spade New York. She paired the not-yet-shoppable bag with a custom romper by Fausto Puglisi made from the same fabric she sported in her music video for “Look What You Made Me Do,” which pokes fun at her public persona.
Some fans viewed the reptilian accessory as a pointed dig at Kardashian. “Happy National Snake Day, here’s Taylor Swift two years after being called a snake on social media on her way to a sold out stadium show with a snake print backpack. Look what you made her do, @KimKardashian,” one fan tweeted.
Added another, “Taylor wearing a snake backpack two years after being called a snake… is the power move we all needed.”
Other fans flooded Kardashian’s Twitter feed with both snake and rat emojis, causing “#KimApologizetoTaylor” and “#TaylorSwiftWonParty” to trend on the platform.
Swift further acknowledged her new holiday of choice during her “Reputation” tour stop in Cleveland Tuesday night. “Happy National Snake Day, my favorite day of the year,” she told the crowd. The tour features plenty of snake-related props, from inflatable cobras to slithering gold serpents projected onto a supersized screen.
It’s not the first time Swift has acknowledged her feud with Kardashian and Kanye West — which began in 2016 after the latter included a racy lyric about Swift in his song “Famous,” and Kardashian released Snapchat footage that appeared to show the pop star approving the line — while on the road.
“You might be wondering why there are so many snakes [onstage],” she told the crowd during her stadium tour’s opening performance in Glendale, Arizona in June. “A couple of years ago, someone called me a snake on social media, and it caught on. And I went through some really low times for a while because of it.”
Continued Swift: “I wanted to send a message to you guys that if someone uses name-calling to bully you on social media, and even if a lot of people jump on board with it, that doesn’t have to defeat you. It can strengthen you instead.”
