Tractor-trailer driver dies on a Florida highway on ramp after his rig rolls over making rescue efforts very difficult.
One person died after a tractor-trailer turned upside down on a Florida highway on Aug. 7 around midday.
Rescue crews worked for an hour to free the driver from the wreckage. The truck overturned on a ramp connected to the turnpike. The crews were unsuccessful and he ultimately died at the scene of the crash, NBC 6 reported.
“The fact that it was a rollover and it landed in the position it landed makes it very difficult, we have to make sure that we don’t become victims while we’re working to rescue the patient,” Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Lt. Kirsten Miller told NBC 6.
Miller also said there were about 100 people comprising the 21 units working on the rescue.
The truck is believed to have been carrying metal, according to NBC 6. The driver is thought to be a 54-year-old male from Miami, but no further identifying information has been released, ABC 10 reported.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident.
