Video of the attack in the downtown area of Utah city has gone viral on social media.
Police in Salt Lake City, Utah, are appealing for information to help find a suspect seen on video hitting a man after asking if he was gay. The clip, recorded on a phone by victim Sal Trejo, was uploaded to social media as part of the effort to find the “dangerous” individual.
The short video shows a man wearing a green T-shirt asking Trejo, “Are you gay though?” The victim replies “Oh, I am.” The suspect then says, “Oh, then you are gay,” before hitting Trejo and sending his phone flying.
The incident occurred in the early hours of 17 February outside a bar in downtown Salt Lake City.
In a statement posted on Twitter after uploading video of the attack, Trejo said: “It started with him approaching us out of the blue and making homophobic and misogynistic comments towards our group.
