FCC Chairman Pushes for Default, Free Robocall Blocking

Pai on Wednesday issued a declaratory ruling, which would explicitly allow carriers to automatically block spoofed calls, so they never reach their intended recipients. Carriers would be able to do this by default, so users wouldn’t have to opt in to call-blocking programs.
The ruling also notes that providers should clearly disclose to customers what types of calls are being blocked, and give them the option to opt out. The call-blocking service also must not interfere with the country’s emergency communications systems.
