Torchlight II is this week’s Epic freebie.
Torchlight III hasn’t gone over great with critics or fans. Following its early access launch in June, Runic’s action-RPG is saddled with “Mixed” reviews on Steam and hasn’t fared better with the press.
Torchlight II, however, has had eight years to get to become the beacon of hack-and-slash fun it is now, boasting “Very Positive” reviews on Steam. It’s also free. If you’ve been paying attention to Epic freebies for a while, this will be the second game in the series to appear in your library. The first Torchlight was free on the platform last July.
But, if this is your first time venturing onto Epic’s storefront, have no fear! Creating an account is simple. Follow this link to find the site. Then, you’ll just need to choose a username and password and you’re ready to go. From there, claiming the game works just like buying it, but the price will ring up $0.00.
Now that Torchlight II is up for grabs, Epic has revealed next week’s free duo. The star of the show is Fullbright’s Gone Home follow-up, Tacoma. Released in 2017, this sci-fi walking sim will forever be remembered as the game that best solved the problem of audio logs, by instead, having you watch recordings captured by the ship’s AI.
Next Up Hero will also be free. The 2018 action-RPG was developed by Digital Continue, creators of SuperMash, the game that makes games.

The latest Xbox One Free Play Days promotion features a trio of tactical treats.
This week’s crop of Xbox Free Play Days games is headlined by Frostpunk: Console Edition, the excellent city-building survival game from 11-bit Studios. Following worldwide volcanic winter, players must grow and sustain a society living on the precipice. It’s a deep and complex game but it’s also accessible, and often thought-provoking. Chilly, chilling, and challenging.
Also free to play is Ubisoft’s much-maligned tactical online shooter, Ghost Recon Breakpoint. The game is certainly in better shape than at launch, but there’s still a way to go. If you click with its survival-leaning gameplay, there’s some fun to be found. The game is worth a free play, no doubt.
Finally, turn-based tactical RPG Ash of Gods Redemption is a narrative-led, turn-based, tactical RPG with roguelike elements. Well, that’s every box ticked. We haven’t played this one, but we’re big fans of redemption as a concept. Go redeem!
Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members can download all three games and play for free until 11:59 pm on July 19, 2020.
If you want to continue playing after the weekend, all three games are currently on offer. And don’t worry, all achievements and progress transfer over to purchased copies.

Microsoft is adding an impressive slate of games to Xbox Game Pass during the remainder of July.
Arriving today is Forager, the charming crafting adventure game from Hopfrog. It’s definitely a game to try if a blend of Zelda, Stardew Valley, and Terraria sounds appealing.
Carrion is next, slaughtering its way onto Game Pass next week. If nothing else, Phobia Game Studio’s reverse-horror is a master class of pixel art animation. Let’s hope the game lives up to its clever premise.
Obsidian Entertainment’s Grounded debuts on July 28 as an Xbox Game Preview title. The shrunken-down survival game is the studio’s first new project since its acquisition by Microsoft.
Nowhere Prophet and The Touryst arrive on July 30, as does Sega’s sublime crime remake, Yakuza Kiwami 2.
It’s another stellar lineup for Microsoft’s all-you-can-play game subscription service. Here’s the full list of new additions.
There are just three games leaving Game Pass this month. Each one is reduced by 20% on the Xbox Digital Games Store until July 31, 2020.
