Last week, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau took to the OnePlus forums and explained the reason why the company is retaining the good-old 3.5mm headphone jack on the OnePlus 5T flagship. Now, Lau is back on the forums, this time to talk about wireless charging. Lau has also revealed that the company’s next flagship will not be featuring wireless charging technology.

Just like its predecessor, the OnePlus 5T will come equipped with the brand’s proprietary Dash Charge fast charging technology. Lau says that wireless charging is an exciting concept that’s matured a lot over the last few years. However, given the current state of this tech, the brand believes Dash Charge is still a superior choice.
Discussing the reasons behind the decision, Lau says that Dash Charge produces 20 watts of power, which can give OnePlus smartphones a day’s power in half an hour. He goes on to say that some of the best wireless charging pads available on the market can produce only 15 watts of power, and that’s only when you position your phone correctly. With wireless charging, you have to keep your phone perfectly aligned on the pad to get the advertised charging rates.
As for the OnePlus 5T, the phone will be unveiled at an event in New York on November 16th. There will be an early sale of the device in India on Amazon and the OnePlus store on November 21st, before regular sales kick off on November 28th.
