Sergio Garcia tied a record for the highest score on a single hole in The Masters on Thursday and was at a complete loss for words afterwords, baffled by how it happened.
The reigning Masters champion was just two over par when he teed off on number 15, but came out of it 10 over after hitting five consecutive shots in the water and posting a 13 on the par-five. (RELATED: Sergio Garcia Hits Five Straight Shots In The Water)
“I don’t know what to tell you. It’s one of those things, you know. I feel like, I don’t know, it’s the first time in my career where I make a 13 without missing a shot,” the Spanish golfer told reporters after finishing his opening round.
Garcia landed all five of his approach shots on the green, but they took off towards the water one after the other, again and again.
“It’s as simple as that and I feel like I hit a lot of good shots and unfortunately the ball just didn’t want to stop,” Garcia explained. “I don’t know it’s one of those things. So, it’s just unfortunate, but it is what it is.”

Garcia, who earned his first career major victory with his win at Augusta National a year ago, finished with an 81 in his opening round. Unfortunately it will likely keep him from making the cut after round two with no chance of defending his title.
