« I think there is significant danger to the president. »
Michael Avenatti, the lawyer for adult film star Stormy Daniels, laid into President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer Michael Cohen on Monday, saying the ongoing investigation will result in more bad news for the White House.
Following a Monday hearing related to documents seized in a raid of Cohen’s hotel, office, and home last week, Avenatti ripped Trump’s personal attorney for being “radioactive,” saying that anybody who “was associated with him in the last 20 to 30 years should be very, very concerned.”
The attorney for Daniels, who rose to prominence representing the former porn star, said he expects the documents to produce more legal troubles for the president.
« Depending on what is contained within those documents, I think there is significant danger to the president. The president trusted Mr. Cohen as his fixer for years,” Avenatti said.
“He trusted him with his innermost secrets and I think that the chickens are about to come home to roost, » the attorney added.
It was revealed earlier on Monday that Fox News anchor Sean Hannity was one of Cohen’s clients alongside the president of the United States. Lawyers representing Cohen were forced to disclose Hannity as a former client after U. S. District Judge Kimba Wood ordered his identity to be revealed during Monday’s hearing.
In response, Hannity released the following statement:
« Michael Cohen has never represented me in any matter. I never retained him, received an invoice, or paid legal fees. I have occasionally had brief discussions with him about legal questions about which I wanted his input and perspective.
I assumed those conversations were confidential, but to be absolutely clear they never involved any matter between me and a third-party.
In response to some wild speculation, let me make clear that I did not ask Michael Cohen to bring this proceeding on my behalf, I have no personal interest in this proceeding, and, in fact, asked that my de minimis discussions with Michael Cohen, which dealt almost exclusively about real estate, not be made a part of this proceeding. »
But according to Avenatti, Hannity’s involvement only supports his case. “What we witnessed earlier in the hearing with the disclosure relating to Sean Hannity proved my point,” he said.
Daniels also addressed the media following the hearing. “For years, Mr. Cohen has acted like he is above the law,” Daniels said. “He has played by a different set of rules — or, shall we say, no rules at all.”
“My attorney and I are committed to making sure that everyone finds out the truth and the facts of what happened,” she added. “I give my word that we will not rest until that happens.”
