The company allegedly sought the emails as a part of an intelligence operation, and was able to manipulate the server so that the company received a \u201ccourtesy copy\u201d of Clinton\u2019s email communications in real time throughout her term as Secretary of State.
\u201cWhen [the Intelligence Community Inspector General] did a very deep dive, they found in the actual metadata \u2014 the data which is at the header and footer of all the emails \u2014 that a copy, a \u2018courtesy copy,\u2019 was being sent to a third party and that third party was a known Chinese public company that was involved in collecting intelligence for China,\u201d said a former intelligence officer with knowledge of the situation.
The intelligence officer did not give the name of the Chinese company, telling The Daily Caller he was not authorized to speak on the record about it, but the company reportedly operates in \u201cWashington\u2019s northern Virginia suburbs.\u201d
It may have already been known that Chinese hackers had gotten Clinton\u2019s emails, based on a July comment by Rep. Louis Gohmert (R-Texas), who said the Inspector General had determined the emails had been sent to an unspecified \u201cforeign entity.\u201d
Officials from the Inspector General\u2019s office allegedly warned FBI officials, including the now-fired Peter Strzok, about Chinese hacking.
The FBI fully denies that The Daily Caller\u2019s report is accurate, saying in a statement to media that \u201cThe FBI has not found any evidence the (Clinton) servers were compromised.\u201d
A Justice Department report issued in June stated that there was no evidence of foreign intrusion on Clinton\u2019s server, although an official admitted there was no way of being 100 percent sure, and that sophisticated hackers could have covered their trail, according to NBC News.
President Donald Trump, shortly after the publication of the Daily Caller story, took to Twitter to address the alleged Chinese hacking.
Despite tweeting about allegations made in an anonymously sourced story, Trump tweeted later on that anonymous sources were a sign of fake news.<\/p>\n
