<!--DEBUG:--><!--DEBUG:dc3-united-states-financial-in-english-pdf--><!--DEBUG:--><!--DEBUG:dc3-united-states-financial-in-english-pdf--><!--DEBUG-spv-->{"id":1271438,"date":"2018-11-22T19:36:00","date_gmt":"2018-11-22T17:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nhub.news\/?p=1271438"},"modified":"2018-11-23T15:23:06","modified_gmt":"2018-11-23T13:23:06","slug":"sterling-boosted-by-draft-agreement-between-the-uk-and-eu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/nhub.news\/fr\/2018\/11\/sterling-boosted-by-draft-agreement-between-the-uk-and-eu\/","title":{"rendered":"Sterling boosted by draft agreement between the UK and EU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>The pound rallied on Thursday following the agreement on a draft political declaration about the UK\u2019s future relationship with the European Union.<\/b><br \/>\nBy Maryam Cockar, Press Association City Reporter<br \/>November 22 2018 5:36 PM<br \/>The pound rallied on Thursday following the agreement on a draft political declaration about the UK\u2019s future relationship with the European Union.<br \/>European Council president Donald Tusk said the draft has \u201cbeen agreed at negotiators\u2019 level and agreed in principle at political level, subject to the endorsement\u201d of leaders of the EU.<br \/>This paves the way for a special Brexit summit to go ahead in Brussels on Sunday, when leaders of the 27 remaining EU states are expected to approve the declaration and the 585-page withdrawal agreement setting out the terms of the UK\u2019s departure from the bloc.<br \/>The pound was up 0.72% to 1.286 US dollars, having hit 1.292 earlier in the session.<br \/>Sterling was also up against the euro, rising 0.56% to 1.128.<br \/>David Madden, market analyst at CMC Markets, said some of the pound\u2019s gains were handed back as traders started to wonder how likely the Brexit deal will get passed in Parliament.<br \/>\u201cThe agreement appears to [be] pro-business, which is why we are seeing an upward move in the pound,\u201d he said. <br \/>\u201cGiven that there would be deep cooperation between the UK and the EU post-Brexit, the deal might not get approval in London.\u201d<br \/>Meanwhile, the FTSE 100 was hit by the strong pound as many of the companies on the blue-chip index make the bulk of their money overseas.<br \/>The FTSE 100 index closed 89.91 points, or 1.28%, lower at 6,960.32.<br \/>The French Cac was down 0.75%, while the German Dax fell 0.94%.<br \/>In corporate news, British Gas owner Centrica closed down 13.45p, or 9.2%, to 132.3p after it warned over a hit of around \u00a370 million from the incoming energy price cap as it revealed another 370,000 customers have quit the supplier.<br \/>Britain\u2019s biggest energy provider said the earnings impact will be taken in the first quarter of next year, with the cap coming into force on January 1.<br \/>Shares in Toby Carvery owner Mitchells &#038; Butlers rose 2.40p to 270p.<br \/>Its profits declined as cold weather and football kept diners away but it still managed to beat expectations and increase sales.<br \/>Adjusted profit before tax slipped from \u00a3180 million to \u00a3178 million in the year to September 29.<br \/>Mitie shares fell 3.60p to 153.3p after the company cautioned over \u201ccompetitive and challenging\u201d industry conditions as it posted lower half-year earnings and revealed a \u00a3255 million fall in its order book.<br \/>The outsourcing group posted a 4.2% fall in underlying operating profits to \u00a338.4 million for the six months to September 30.<br \/>There was low volatility in oil prices as most traders in the U.
