The company said some combination of people\u2019s names, addresses, passport numbers, dates of birth and other information was stolen in the breach.<br \/>The company said an unspecified number of people had their credit card information stolen, too. Though that information is encrypted, the hackers may have capabilities of breaking through the encryption, Business Insider reports.<br \/>Brands: The hack could have also affected anyone who stayed in a Starwood property on or before Sept. 10. Those hotels include:<br \/>How: Marriott said an internal security tool alerted the company of the hack. The company investigated the matter and decided an \u00ab\u00a0unauthorized party had copied and encrypted information,\u201d according to BBC News.<br \/>Response: \u00ab\u00a0We deeply regret this incident happened,\u00a0\u00bb the company said in a statement. \u00ab\u00a0Marriott reported this incident to law enforcement and continues to support their investigation.
