\nLOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Musical drama remake \u201cA Star is Born\u201d led a wide range of contenders for the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Wednesday, landing four nominations, including best movie ensemble.
The film will compete for SAG\u2019s top movie prize in a diverse group that includes superhero movie \u201cBlack Panther,\u201d romantic comedy \u201cCrazy Rich Asians,\u201d rock biopic \u201cBohemian Rhapsody\u201d and director Spike Lee\u2019s historical drama \u201cBlacKkKlansman.\u201d
\u201cA Star is Born,\u201d released by AT&T Inc\u2019s ( T. N) Warner Bros, features Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga in a classic story about a young woman trying to make it in the music business. Both actors were nominated for individual awards for their performances.
The SAG awards are closely watched as an indicator of likely Oscar success because actors form the largest voting group in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
In the last 23 years, only one film has won the best picture Oscar without being nominated for SAG\u2019s top ensemble prize, last year\u2019s \u201cThe Shape of Water.\u201d
SAG award winners will be announced on Jan. 27 at a ceremony in Los Angeles.
\u201cBlack Panther\u201d and \u201cCrazy Rich Asians\u201d were both heralded as milestones for diversity in Hollywood, which has faced criticism for under-representation of actors and filmmakers of color. \u201cBlack Panther\u201d was the first big-budget superhero movie to star a predominantly black cast, while \u201cCrazy Rich Asians\u201d was the first film with an all-Asian cast from a major Hollywood studio in 25 years.
\u201cVice,\u201d which garnered the most Golden Globe nominations, earned SAG acting nods for Christian Bale and Amy Adams for their roles as former Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife, Lynne.
Other actors nominated for leading roles included Rami Malek for playing Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury in \u201cBohemian Rhapsody,\u201d Viggo Mortensen for road-trip comedic drama \u201cGreen Book\u201d and John David Washington for \u201cBlacKkKlansman.\u201d
In the running for lead actress were Emily Blunt in the musical sequel \u201cMary Poppins Returns,\u201d Glenn Close for drama \u201cThe Wife,\u201d Olivia Colman for British historical comedy \u201cThe Favourite\u201d and Melissa McCarthy in \u201cCan You Ever Forgive Me?\u201d
Blunt scored a second acting nod for her supporting role in horror film \u201cA Quiet Place.\u201d Adams and Emma Stone also earned two acting nominations each.
In TV, Amazon.com Inc ( AMZN. O) comedy \u201cThe Marvelous Mrs. Maisel\u201d and Netflix Inc ( NFLX. O) drama \u201cOzark\u201d topped the list of SAG nominees with four nods each.

In addition to \u201cA Star is Born,\u201d Warner Bros released \u201cCrazy Rich Asians,\u201d while \u201cThe Wife\u201d was distributed by Sony Corp ( 6758. T).<\/p>\n
