Here is this week’s lineup of new Nintendo Switch eShop releases.
Crysis Remastered is the latest in a long line of technically demanding games to be ported to the Switch. The game’s recent trailer was impressive enough, but can a dialled-back 30FPS 720p port really be deemed a remaster? Maybe not, but if it runs well enough, the prospect of handheld play might tempt us back to the Lingshan Islands.
One new game that should be equally impressive either on TV or in your hands is Carrion from Phobia Games Studio. It’s an exquisitely animated reverse horror game in which you control an amorphous beastie trapped in a strange facility.
Ace Team’s humorous tower defence action series also returns with Rock of Ages 3: Make & Break. This time around, players can create and edit levels to share online.
And puzzle fans should definitely take a look at Creaks. The latest game from Amanita Design follows in the footsteps of Samorost and Machinarium with intricate hand-drawn visuals, and a subtle, melancholic narrative.
Other new Nintendo Switch games include Aeolis Tournament, Mittelborg: City of Mages, and Rainswept.
We’ll update this post with any late additions throughout the week. In the meantime, here is the confirmed lineup of new Nintendo eShop releases.
My Nintendo members should also check out the summer eShop Double Gold Points promotion.
Visit the Thumbsticks new releases page for regular Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 updates. ACE Team’s game comes with a variety of new gameplay ideas, but we’re most excited to try the new level editor.
We’re also excited to see Amanita Design return with a brand new game. Creaks features an intricate and beautiful world, head-scratching puzzles, and a story starring “avian folk and seemingly deadly furniture monsters.”
If you’re looking for something faster-paced, Dying Light: Hellraid is new DLC for Techland’s popular first-person horror game. The add-on features new game modes set in a hellish landscape populated by demonic enemies. It looks a bit like Doom x Dark Souls + Diablo.
Other new PS4 releases include Dragon Marked for Death, Tannenberg, and Rainswept.
We are still waiting on confirmed dates for a couple of new PS4 games. We’ll update this page throughout the week with any additions.
Bookmark the Thumbsticks new releases page for the latest video games. But, perhaps, Carrion has been keeping an eye on us. This clever reverse horror from Phobia Game Studio casts players as a sinewy tentacled creature that must stalk and kill its captors to escape from a mysterious facility. Static images of the game’s pixel-art visuals belie the fact that it looks horribly good in motion. It’s sublimely animated, visceral, and violent. We can’t wait.
If your only memory of the Turok franchise is from its Nintendo 64 heyday, you’re in for a surprise. Turok: Escape from Lost Valley is a bright and breezy isometric action-adventure with a cute, hand-drawn art style. It received a mixed reception on PC last year, but we can see it being more enjoyable played from the couch on the big screen.
Finally, Creaks is the long-awaited new puzzle adventure from Amanita Design, creators of the legendary Machinarium and Samorost. The game is best left unspoiled, but we’re pleased to see the studio’s visual flair is undimmed.
Other new games include Rainswept, Tannenberg, and Rock of Ages 3: Make and Break. Each new release can be purchased from the Xbox One digital games store or the Microsoft online store.
Carrion is also one of the new titles coming to Xbox Game Pass this month.
Bookmark the Thumbsticks new releases page for the latest games. Here’s a round-up of some of the best savings currently offered on the Nintendo Switch eShop.
This week’s sale lineup doesn’t feature any first-party Nintendo titles, but there are lots of excellent games on offer that you might have overlooked.
It’s hard to overlook Overcooked!, but if you haven’t sampled Ghost Town’s games of culinary chaos, both titles are on sale. There’s 66% sliced off the first game, and 40% carved off the second.
Bandai Namco has applied curiously specific price cuts to its sale titles. Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is reduced by 41%, and Tales of Vesperia is reduced by 49%. No half price for you!
Activision trio of remasters are also included, with decent price reductions for Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, and Spyro Reignited Trilogy.
And, to highlight some of our absolute favourites, you can’t go wrong with the stunning Superhot, Yoku’s Island Express, or Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom. We’re also fond of open-world crime drama, L. A. Noire.
Other recommendations include Drinkbox Studio’s two excellent Guacamelee games, and Shin’en’s Fast RMX and The Touryst.
Here are some more highlights taken from the European Nintendo eShop. Check your regional store for the full lineup of discounted games.
Visit the Thumbsticks sales page for more great gaming bargains. We round up all the deals every week for the Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The Desolation update turns No Man’s Sky into straight-up horror.
Published
on
By
Another free update to No Man’s Sky adds more juicy content. The Desolation update turns No Man’s Sky into straight-up horror.
Right. Let’s try and whizz through this. I know we promised that we’d stop talking about this eventually, but it bears repeating that Hello Games is too good, far better than we all deserve.
No Man’s Sky was delayed and the “fans” were awful to Hello Games. Then the game released, arguably before it was ready, and the “fans” were awful to Hello Games again. Then the “fans” continued to be awful to Hello Games. The development team effectively went into hiding and worked on bringing No Man’s Sky closer to their original vision, and the “fans” were still just the worst.
Then came the updates. Massive release after massive release of brilliant new content, that turned the base game – an interesting curio in itself – into a behemoth. We went from repetitive proc-gen to genuinely (almost) limitless experiences. And they’re all free. Every single one of them. In spite of how dreadful people were to Hello Games, every single update to No Man’s Sky didn’t cost the players a penny.
Why do we bring this up, again? Because here comes another one: The No Man’s Sky Desolation update.
Desolation is a bit different. While some other updates have added scary bits to No Man’s Sky – including those terrifying biological horrors – this is the first one that’s built with pure horror in mind. It’s somewhere between Alien and FEAR, and we are very much here for it.
pic.twitter.com/ZpIH3EqEZg
Sean Murray (@NoMansSky) July 16,2020
According to a Tweet from Sean Murray, the No Man’s Sky Desolation update includes:
Which all sounds very exciting, doesn’t it? We’ll say it again for the people in the back: The folks at Hello Games are too good for us.
Follow Thumbsticks on Flipboard, Facebook, Google News, and Twitter for daily video game news updates.
Found it interesting, entertaining, useful, or informative? Following its early access launch in June, Runic’s action-RPG is saddled with “Mixed” reviews on Steam and hasn’t fared better with the press.
Torchlight II, however, has had eight years to get to become the beacon of hack-and-slash fun it is now, boasting “Very Positive” reviews on Steam. It’s also free. If you’ve been paying attention to Epic freebies for a while, this will be the second game in the series to appear in your library. The first Torchlight was free on the platform last July.
But, if this is your first time venturing onto Epic’s storefront, have no fear! Creating an account is simple. Follow this link to find the site. Then, you’ll just need to choose a username and password and you’re ready to go. From there, claiming the game works just like buying it, but the price will ring up $0.00.
Now that Torchlight II is up for grabs, Epic has revealed next week’s free duo. The star of the show is Fullbright’s Gone Home follow-up, Tacoma. Released in 2017, this sci-fi walking sim will forever be remembered as the game that best solved the problem of audio logs, by instead, having you watch recordings captured by the ship’s AI.
Next Up Hero will also be free. The 2018 action-RPG was developed by Digital Continue, creators of SuperMash, the game that makes games.
Follow Thumbsticks on Flipboard, Facebook, Google News, and Twitter.
Found it interesting, entertaining, useful, or informative?
